Tanglwood Lakes Community Association

Nestled in the Pocono Mountain region of Northeast Pennsylvania is this issue's Community in the Spotlight, the Tanglwood Lakes Community Association! The community was established in 1968 with plans for only 10 homes, but now has 650 homes and plenty of room to welcome even more residents. The Tanglwood Lakes Community Association was established in 1976 to monitor the development of the 900 acre property. Home to a varied group of people including full time residents, retirees, vacationers and seasonal residents, Tanglwood residents get together for lots of different activities including Bridge Club, Pool Group, Men's Card Club, Mahjong Club and more.

Tanglwood residents are also passionate about giving back! The Bookees, the Tanglwood book club donates to Pennies for Peace, while The Tangwoolies, the crochet club, makes blankets and clothing for the local Ronald McDonald House. Neighborhood golfers also help out by sponsoring a Rally for the Cure and Prostate Cancer Tournament, which raised over $10,000 this year!

In addition to all of the clubs and social functions within the community, Tanglwood residents stay busy with the on-site amenities, including Lake Tanglwood, a beach and boat marina, an 18 hole golf course designed by George and Tom Fazio, community center, tennis courts and more! Outdoor activities are enjoyed year round, and the 42 acre nature park offers hikers the chance to encounter various wildlife including deer, turkeys, and the occasional black bear!

Outside the community, residents enjoy a variety of local attractions and activities! Surrounded by over 140,000 acres of National Park Service and Pennsylvania State Parks, there is always somewhere new to explore, and skiing is a popular wintertime activity amongst the residents. For those who also enjoy "city" activities, there are concerts at the Scranton Cultural Center and Kirby Center as well as the Broadway Theater. Sports fans can see the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Mohegan Sun Sports Arena and the New York Yankees farm team plays at the PNC Field.

How does this busy community stay connected? With an AtHomeNet website! "We keep the community apprised of events in the area such as concerts, baseball games, etc. The Announcements page is the perfect place for keeping everyone informed about all of the social activities as well as community meetings," remarked Wendy Eisenhauer, Tanglwood's website administrator. Wendy also credited the Photo Albums feature in increasing involvement in community activities-"Our photos also entice others who may have missed an event to attend future events." The Message Board and Amenities features are also very popular amongst website users.

As an administrator, Wendy considers the Announcements and Calendar features her favorites. "They keep our community informed of all aspects of life in and around Tanglwood. The information is organized and easy to access for those who might have trouble navigating websites." The ability to communicate with the entire community from this central place makes her job easier and keeps everyone connected. Wendy says that the website also "limits the number of calls to the office for information, which is both time and cost effective."

We congratulate the Tanglwood Lakes Community Association on being named the Community in the Spotlight and we look forward to many more years of supporting this energetic community!
